Why we built LAS Converter

By Lawal Ayo, founder of LAS G Concept · October 15, 2026 · 3 min read

Most products start with a small irritation. LAS Converter started with several of them at once. People around us needed to turn a video into audio, shrink a file, change an image format, save something for later, or get the words out of a recording. Each task meant a different website, a different app, and often a different set of pop-ups. We wanted one place for all of it.

The problem: many tools, none of them quite right

If you have ever searched for a free converter, you know the pattern. The first result is a page covered in advertising buttons. The real download button is hard to find. One tool handles audio, another handles images, a third handles video, and none of them remembers what you did last time. On a phone with limited storage and an expensive data plan, installing three apps for three small jobs is a real cost.

We decided that a single app, available where people actually work, would be more useful. That is why LAS Converter is available on the web, on Windows and on Android.

What LAS Converter does

LAS Converter is an all-in-one media app. It can:

  • Convert video, audio and images between formats.
  • Download Facebook videos, with higher quality available on the Premium plan.
  • Generate subtitles for video.
  • Turn speech into text in English, Nigerian Pidgin, Yoruba and Hausa.

Each of these grew out of something people kept asking for. Converting files is the foundation. Facebook is where a great deal of video is shared in Nigeria, so saving a video you are allowed to keep is a natural request. Subtitles help people watch in noisy places or without sound.

Why speech-to-text in local languages

Speech-to-text tools tend to work best in languages with the most resources behind them. For people who speak Pidgin, Yoruba or Hausa day to day, that leaves a gap. We wanted a tool that treats those languages as first-class options next to English. Accuracy in any language depends on audio quality, accents and background noise, and no tool is perfect, so we encourage people to review transcripts before relying on them. But supporting these languages is a statement about who we are building for.

Free and premium, and why

Running a media tool costs money, because conversion and transcription use real computing resources. We offer a free plan so that anyone can do everyday conversions. A Premium plan, at ₦1,500 per month or ₦12,000 per year, unlocks higher quality and heavier features, such as up to 4K, 320 kbps MP3, batch conversion, speech-to-text and subtitles, longer videos and a priority queue. We would rather be clear about that trade than hide costs inside confusing offers. Limits are enforced on the server, and the interface simply reflects them, so what you see is what you get.

Design choices that follow from where we live

Building in Nigeria shapes the product in practical ways. Connections can be slow or interrupted, so the tools should not waste data. Many people use Android phones as their main computer, so the Android app matters as much as the website. Payment needs to work with local options, and prices need to make sense in naira. These are not afterthoughts. They are constraints we start with.

What we are still improving

No product is finished. We want conversions to be faster, instructions to be clearer, and the experience on low-end devices to be smoother. We would like to hear what works and what does not. You can reach us through the channels listed on our contact page.

Using it responsibly

We built LAS Converter for legitimate personal use. Please respect the rights of creators and the rules of the platforms you take content from. Our guide on converting video to MP3 safely covers practical tips on staying safe and on the legal side.
